Casino Gaming in Massachusetts
In November 2011 Massachusetts passed a Gaming Act to introduce casino gambling into the state and authorizing the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) to license 3 regional casinos and one slots parlor. For the details about this bill and the licensing timelines of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, see our page Massachusetts Casino Bill 2011 page.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has licensed one slots parlor and two regional casino resorts.

- WYNN EVERETT (info) - OPENING TBA
Wynn LLC has been licensed to build a $1.6 billion five-star resort and casino at Everett near Boston. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission approved Wynn's application over proposals from Mohegan Sun and Suffolk Downs.
Southeastern Casino (Pending)
One more casino license may be issued for the southeastern part of the state. The decision is pending process delays and uncertainties from the planned Mashpee Wampanoag casino in Taunton, MA.
There is one remaining commercial developer applying for this license. Mass Gaming & Entertainment is proposing a $650 million casino in Brockton about 17 miles north of Taunton.
A gaming compact between the state and the Mashpee Wampanoag requires a Taunton casino to pay the state 17 percent of its gambling revenue in lieu of taxes. Commercial casinos pay 25 percent. If a commercial casino is licensed in the same region, the Taunton casino will pay nothing.
Massachusetts Indian Casinos
There are two tribal casinos proposed for Massachusetts.
- Mashpee Wampanoag Casino
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe hope to build a $500 million destination casino resort in Taunton, about 35 miles south of Boston. This will be a 146-acre complex with a 150, 000 sq-ft casino, 3 hotels, an event center, and a family water park.
- Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah)
The Aquinnah tribe want to build a casino on tribal land on Martha's Vineyard. The federal government has already approved "Class II" gambling on the Aquinnah's reservation. The state has sued to block this project.
